2 months baby!
2 MONTHS AS A MISSIONARY!!! Woot woot!! I'm learning that missionary time is weird - it moves so slow but yet so fast.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEK
- this weekend there was a festival/3 day long party. Which means a few things: 1. People party allll night (like walking through the streets at 8 am on Sunday morning there was still music going from the speakers stacked 15 ft high and verryyy drunk people hanging out) 2. Creepy Bahian men are at their creepiest 3. Lots of guns and 4. Nobody wants to talk about Jesus. So needless to say, it has been an interesting few days.
- I officially have a new name - Sister Max or just Max. Turns out Maxfield is just too hard for the Brazilians to pronounce. Even Max is sometimes a struggle
- Here's a little bit of Brazilian culture that I learned this week: holy crap these people loooove to talk. Like I think they could talk forever if they tried. I hardly understand what they're even talking about, but they just keep going. We try to turn our conversations to Jesus, but these people are not afraid to interrupt you or just not listen at all to what you have to say and instead just talk
- We don't have too many contacts in this area because both me and my comp are new to parque da cidade. So this week has been a lot of trying to find people to teach, which is hard, but there are so many miracles through our days that make me happy. So still hard, but good :)
- We had Zone Conference this week!! It was way good, but before I get to the spiritual part, I'll tell you the funny stuff so you can make fun of me. Of course, because I am an American girl from Utah, they asked me to play the piano. The STL's asked me last Sunday if I knew how to play, and deciding to give all my talents to God, I begrudgingly said yes. They then proceeded to send me 5 pages of sheet music to an ancient hymn that I've never heard of, with Zone Conference 2 days away. They're all still alive, but I will likely not be asked again to play the piano unless they are very desperate.
- Now for the spiritual part. For Zone Conference, the mental health senior missionary gave us a presentation, which was sooo good. And the senior missionary is American which means it was in English!! (God really knew what He was doing there because I needed to hear all of what that lady had to say). One thing she talked about is how we can't compare ourselves or our work to other missionaries. Instead we need to look to God to know if what we are doing everyday is what He needs us to do. She gave us a question that we can ask in our prayers every night: "Is what I did today acceptable for you?" Maybe we get a 'yes', maybe we get a 'no you can do more', but at least we know that the instruction is coming from an all-knowing God, and not other 19 year olds. Because at the end of the day, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are the ones presiding over this mission. And we can look to them all day everyday for support and guidance.
life is good :)
love you all
