so coasa boas

Image
Welcome back to another week in the Bahia!! I know you were all anxiously awaiting this email, so here we go. Highs and lows and lows and highs and milagres and só coisas boas - all the fun stuff:  - We have traveled by carro pequeno so much, that they now recognize us, and pick us up not only at the designated spots, but also just on the side of the road when they see us. - Here's a bit of Bahian culture. There are these things called egg cars. When my companion first tried to explain it to me, I was like "a car that's been egged?". But no, it's a car that drives around with its trunk open, selling eggs. The most important feature of this car though is that it has a massive speaker attached to the top, which blasts a constant stream of "eggs, eggs, come get your eggs, 20R, 20R". And I still find this very funny when were in the middle of talking Jesus with someone and hear "eggs, eggs, come get your eggs" in the background. - We're pretty ...

Nao entendi nada

sorria estamos na bahia:) Highlightsss - Our water decided to shut off for 3 days, which was an adventure. Our showers were sponsored by Irmã Iracy and an empty house down the street for a few days. Just imagine us marching down the Brazilian road with our towels and soap, and I'm sure whatever you're imagining is exactly what it looked like. - We ran into our investigator's father who claims to be a prophet again (from last week). We were in the park contacting and he was there preaching. We had a little silent battle for investigators. And at one point we were praying with some people we met and we could hear him in the background yelling some Jesus preacher stuff. Only fun times here. - Last pday we got to play sooo much soccer!! (And let's just say sister elescano and I played against 2 young men members of the ward and absolutely kicked their booties) - We also had stake conference yesterday! It was in a different city about 30 minutes away, so our ward rented a ...

We're not in Kansas anymore

More like we aren't in nyc anymore and are actually in Kansas. But then I've never been to Kansas, so I really couldn't tell you. But where's the favelas? The poop on the street? The constant stream of music coming from who knows where? This area is very different from my last area. I actually know now why people say Brazil is so green. There are actually trees here along with cows, horses, goats, you name it. highlights :) - I had my first churrasco!! Saturday our ward celebrated Father's Day (which is apparently in august here) and what's a better way to celebrate fathers than having all the fathers grill a bunch of different types of meat (the women who planned this were quite smart). And who knew that all this meat being grilled on some makeshift grills in a patch of undeveloped land behind the chapel would be sooo good! - Our area has 2 main areas of ward members: the area where we live, and an area about 30 minutes north. We get there by paying 5R for a ca...

Tudo Vai da Certo

This week was goooood! I finally started to feel comfortable in this area. I recognize people on the street, people recognize me in the street, I know more or less how to get around, and feel like I'm part of a community. And now I think my testimony of God's sense of humor is growing because Saturday we got transfer news, and I'm headed to Lessa!! It's an area in the northern more interior part of my mission. So sadly tchau tchau beach and waves and the people in parque da Cidade I've grown to love. I'm saying goodbye to my comp too, Sister Sousa, who was bomb diggity (despite the fact that she wanted to save the spiders we found in our house, but I said "ummm no, not on my watch". They were quickly killed). But my new comp is a cute Peruvian, Sister Elescano!  highlights:) - We had a family home evening with a few members and an investigator. We watched a video about the temple and talked about how we have the incredible opportunity to have eternal f...
