Acai Miracles

I feel like every time I write these emails, I start out with the fact that this week was crazy. Here we go again. This week was craaazy.  1 transfer in and I can officially say I've been robbed, had many weird middle aged men experiences, and many incredible spiritual experiences too highlights :) - After marketing our English course to the local high school we had 12 people show up!! (May not sound like a lot, but trust me it is) - We had a family home evening night with the Sisters in the neighboring area and a family from their ward and it ended with karaoking to the church youth songs while eating brigadeiros. So ya, pretty fire. - I already knew this, but this week confirmed that Sydney, a white shirt, and a chocolate filled churro may taste very good, but will always end up quite messy. - The weather in Salvador is either blasting sun, a light drizzle of rain, or a light drizzle of rain that within seconds turns into the heavens opening up and absolutely dumping. And ...

oiii folks! How's life? How's pioneer day? Give me all the deets  highlights :) - I learned this week that in the city park that our area is named after, the old ladies play botte ball for money. Apparently its quite intense. - Friday was my comp's bday!! We celebrated with açai, burger king, and a surprise party with cake with the help of the youth from our ward. - I showed the young women in the stake how to find their knee reflex and they thought I was magic - Had some good lessons this week with Italo, Duda, the men that play soccer at our ward building, and some others! Keep the prayers coming  - On Friday this week, we woke up early to go to the high school (never thought I would be saying that on the mish) to tell all the kids about our English course we're teaching. While we were waiting to talk with the principal, a bunch of kids were walking by and a boy gives me an "oi". I say "oi" back, and he turns to his buddy, grabs him by the should...

Futeblo para sempre

some updates from bahia:) - I will never ever ever be taking a hot shower ever again. Like ever. - The chaco tanline is coming along nicely. I think it will be a permanent tatoo by the time I get home. - I tried acarajé and paçoca this week which were both bomb diggity. Couldn't tell you exactly what was in them, but I don't need to know that right? - my bishop told me I looked like a viking and needed an axe to carry around -  HIGHLIGHTS OF HIGHLIGHTS!!!  I GOT TO PLAY SOCCER!!!! Because our area is a wee bit danger town at night, we head back to the chapel every night at 6pm. The youth in the stake are there every night to play basketball, volleyball, and soccer... and so I got to play a lot this week. And although the 11 year old boys give me a run for my money, the members are quite impressed that not only a gringo, but a gringo girl can hold her own. - We have been fasting a lot in this area, and this week we saw some miracles from it. We finished one if our fasts ...

2 months baby!

2 MONTHS AS A MISSIONARY!!! Woot woot!! I'm learning that missionary time is weird - it moves so slow but yet so fast.  HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEK - this weekend there was a festival/3 day long party. Which means a few things: 1. People party allll night (like walking through the streets at 8 am on Sunday morning there was still music going from the speakers stacked 15 ft high and verryyy drunk people hanging out) 2. Creepy Bahian men are at their creepiest 3. Lots of guns and 4. Nobody wants to talk about Jesus. So needless to say, it has been an interesting few days. - I officially have a new name - Sister Max or just Max. Turns out Maxfield is just too hard for the Brazilians to pronounce. Even Max is sometimes a struggle - Here's a little bit of Brazilian culture that I learned this week: holy crap these people loooove to talk. Like I think they could talk forever if they tried. I hardly understand what they're even talking about, but they just keep going. We try to turn ...

Welcome to Bahia

highlights!!! - last p-day I was talking with an elder in my mission in our chapel who is from Brazil. We were just chatting when we hear gunshots outside. He then goes "welcome to Bahia". The members told me that when I see a person with a gun, i just say "arma bonita" (beautiful gun) and keep walking, so yep, here we go - one day when we were out tracking we were hungry so we got some açai from this cute little store. Lets just say we got the owner and his family's phone number so hopefully we can teach them and get free açai hehe - we take basically the same road everyday into the main neighborhood of our area. And one day on this road, we saw a cute little old lady out on her porch with some grandkids. We went up and started talking to her, and she was soooo sweet. She even gave us popsicles. We got her number and told her we would come back the next day. So we come back the next day, same thing, super sweet and free popsicles. We pass by again on our way ...
