so coasa boas

Welcome back to another week in the Bahia!! I know you were all anxiously awaiting this email, so here we go.

Highs and lows and lows and highs and milagres and só coisas boas - all the fun stuff:
- We have traveled by carro pequeno so much, that they now recognize us, and pick us up not only at the designated spots, but also just on the side of the road when they see us.

- Here's a bit of Bahian culture. There are these things called egg cars. When my companion first tried to explain it to me, I was like "a car that's been egged?". But no, it's a car that drives around with its trunk open, selling eggs. The most important feature of this car though is that it has a massive speaker attached to the top, which blasts a constant stream of "eggs, eggs, come get your eggs, 20R, 20R". And I still find this very funny when were in the middle of talking Jesus with someone and hear "eggs, eggs, come get your eggs" in the background.

- We're pretty used to getting many pamphlets from other churches. Middle aged women walking around telling us that Jesus loves us, take a pamphlet, Amen. One time this week, 4 women approached us with a pamphlet, and told us that Jesus loves us, and then to sister Elescano asked "whose daughter are you?". Sister Elescano was a little taken aback and then knowing that they for sure didn't know her family, she responded "uhhh, I'm a daughter of God!" It turns out they were wanting her earthly parents, but it was a good laugh.

- When we visited Jutai (a super cool investigator) this week, we walked in the door, and he was watching a general conference talk!! (Probably because his sister was making him, but that part doesn't matter)

- This week my trainer decided that I needed to start being more responsible for responding to messages on our phone (Who said that was ok??). And lets just say we have had many many laughs due to my struggle bus of portuguese voice messages. Buttt I did also have a complete conversation with someone over the phone alone (which is freaking hard), so that was a win!

- Yesterday we had Diego's baptism!! Everything was going according to plan, until he decided to not show up to church. He wasn't responding to our calls or texts, and we didn't quite know what to do. We were fasting and were tired and hungry, but we waited and waited some more. And finally, when we were about to give up and go to lunch, he called and said he was on his way. He had accidentally slept in because of a competition he had the day before. His baptism was so awesome! The spirit was incredible! And his two friends who were both baptized in the past 3 months bore their testimonies and Sister Elescano and I did a little musical number for him. Milagres!!

- My spiritual thought this week I actually stole from my companion, thank you Sister Elescano. She taught me a very important principle: Faith without works is dead AND works without faith is dead. I can give out 1000 BoM but if I don't have the faith that anyone will read it, what's the point? Or on the other hand, I can have faith that the people will read the BoM, but if I don't hand them out, nothing is going to happen. Our thoughts and actions are powerful together - both are necessary. Like the story of Jairus and his daughter in Luke 8. Jairus had the faith that Jesus could heal his daughter, so he trekked all the way to Christ (works) and then asked Christ to heal his daughter (faith). And sure enough MILAGRES happened. Grateful for all the milagres happening in the Bahia!!

life is good :)
love you all
