Kill the English
I think the best way to sum up this week is through some stellar quotes (which honestly probably won't make a lot of sense to you guys but just know that I laughed really hard, like really hard, so feel free to laugh along) (also about 98% of these are Irmão Zarza originals, our bomb diggity religion teacher who is the only person who speaks in English to us, although Portuguese is his first language)
- zarza: "can you steal God?" us trying to clarify: "can we steal from God?" Zarza: "no, can you steal God?" sister harden: "we can steal His heart"
- "no need to sing about this one"
- "you laugh like those people who are pigs." (I was laughing...)
- "i don't want you to repeat what I did, but i know it's hard. I am amazing"
- while telling us about his mission in South Africa "the mission president said, 'let's put the 2 Brazilians together, see what happens.' I got hit by a car."
- sometimes while we're studying in class he will start humming or quietly singing random songs, and this week it was lady gaga, kanye west, and louis capaldi. We all just start singing along with him until he laughs.
- this one is actually a quote from my companion. Sometimes during our practice lessons we just start laughing for no good reason, and I can never stop so my companion will say "disculpa por meu esquilo" - I'm not gonna translate it for you
- 1 week before I arrived at the ctm, the presidency changed a rule. Now we can go outside with an instructor on our p days to get acai, shop, and walk the one block around the ctm. Our hour of freedom is awesome and the acai is delicious. Today on our adventure outside the gates (literally an Anna and Elsa frozen moment) we bought some fruit from a stand on the street. I grabbed a random fruit I had never seen before and bought it. The owner of the stand asked if I had ever tried it before, and I told him never. He immediately grabbed another one and cut it up for my district to try right there. People are so good and sweet. (The fruit was way good - atemoya I think lol)
- On normal days, we have 1 class in English about the gospel, and 1 class in Portuguese. But today was our last day of that. From now on, both classes will be fully in Portuguese ?! When Irmão Zarza reminded us of this in class today, he drew a grave on the board with "rip here lies english" and #killtheenglish, so the English is officially getting killed and let's hope the Portuguese kicks in because we've got about 2 weeks before the real learn by fire starts.
- In our last religion class in English today, we had a lesson about Jesus Christ. We had this same lesson in our first week of ctm, so I really saw how much I have grown and learned in the past 4.5 weeks. I really am a representative of Jesus Christ. And as such I need to try and do as He would do, and say as He would say. We also talked about how Christ can call us on our missions. Irmão Zarza reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from President Eyring. "When I find myself thrown away from my priesthood duties by other interests and when my body begs for rest, I give to myself this rallying cry: Remember Him." (listening to president Eyring say it is way more powerful haha). I was introduced to this quote by my trip leader (shout-out to Stockton) on my humanitarian trip a few years ago. It was a good reminder today just of Christ. This is all about Jesus, His atonement, and His love. And hopefully I can help other people know Jesus a little bit better in Brazil:)
life is good:)
love you all
